Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - DVD player is terrible
The DVD player won't play many DVD's, even freshly unwrapped new ones. Freezes and stutters. Simply the worst piece of electronic gear I've ever owned.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Pulled my hair out
Even when new, the DVD player would freeze and stutter step on some prerecorded DVDs. It was my first DVD player, so I wrote it off as scratched/marred discs (we rent most of ours). Then as the warranty expired, it would spaz on virtually every disc. The kids would be hysterical as Dash froze in his unIncredible escape. When ejected, the disc was a hot pancake! I then bought another CHEAP DVD player which has worked great on all DVDs for a year.

MORAL OF THE TALE. Steer clear of this model - YUCK

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - I give up
I have two Toshiba TVs that are great. I also have two of these players. They both do not record on tape. When I first got them, they would only record on fast speed and only play back on the same recorder. Now nothing. Last night, while playing a DVD, one of them paused for a few minutes every few minutes, and is doing it now. I have a Sony DVD recorder w/ hardrive, #500. thats great. The Toshibas are going to the dump. I shoud have paid more money the first time. Thanks for reading this review.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Had it for 2 weeks - will return it.
I had this unit for 2 weeks and it worked ok but the vcr and dvd menus are just horrible. The instructions are terrible too and the VCR stops in the middle of programmed recordings. I have had it, I am taking it back.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Don't understand what all the fuss is about.
I bought this model a few months ago and have not had one problem. Plays perfectly (both DVD and VCR) and easy to set up and use. Images are extremely sharp, especially with the progressive scan DVD. I own 3 Toshiba DVD players and have had no problems in all these years. My oldest one needed a lens cleaning; I took it to the shop; it was covered under Toshiba's warranty and I got it back in one week. Toshiba and this player has done right by me.

We've seen some cool POV display setups in the past, like this bicycle spoke Obama propaganda message, but I don't recall one that could both amaze a person and take their limbs off at the same time. Called the "Display from Hell," that's pretty much what this thing does, all while projecting POV images using 100 blue SMD LEDs. The propeller, which spins at 140mph and is both huge and terrifying, was apparently rigged up for a party. A very dangerous party. From hell. Thanks, Joao! [Hackaday]

Prosecutors on Friday reached a plea agreement with former Connecticut school teacher Julie Amero, who at one time faced up to 40 years in prison after being convicted of endangering minors.

I've heard it said by Dave Winer and many many others: if only Dean had reinvested half the money raised into the Internet, then ...

OK, so you're the Dean Campaign Chief Information Officer in August 2003. The money starts to roll in. $20 million over six months, $2-4 million per month.

What would you spend the money on?

  1. What does your monthly budget look like?
  2. What is your application and infrastructure portfolio?
  3. How much will you allocate to maintenance?
  4. You're building from scratch, so what problems do you hope to avoid through wise architecture?
  5. What are your big milestones?
  6. Who are your key vendors?

How do you spend in consonance with the campaign strategy?

  1. How will you use the Internet to bring offline voters into the campaign at the same numbers as radio or television broadcasts?
  2. What is your online strategy for responding to attack ads and opposition pundits in radio, television and print?
  3. Online community takes time to build and is very hard to organize geographically. What will you do to match the state-by-state primary schedule?
  4. What can you do with online services to serve the campaign in caucus states?
  5. You are preparing for Bush to launch in Spring 2004. What are your countermeasures to reach out to moderate Republicans online while the GOP uses its advanced voter email systems to barrage 200 million validated email addresses?
  6. How will you lower the cost-per-vote vs. the GOP?

Hall & Oates are suing their publisher, Warner/Chappell Music Inc., claiming the publisher failed to enforce the copyright on their song "Maneater" and sue an unnamed singer-songwriter (quite possibly Nelly Furtado) for infringement. The only problem is, Timbaland and Nate "Danja" Hills - the composers of the Furtado track - also work for Warner/Chappel Music. What happens when publishers don't protect songwriters from other songwriters working for the same publisher.
