Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Great unit, but Amazon.com CS is poor....
Unit works great, good as new. Don't waste your time looking for the TomTom Home DVD or product code card. They're not in the box. Amazon.com customer service, from Bangladesh or Calcutta it seems, is CLUELESS! Instead of having the mfr. send the missing items from their product description, they wanted the "complete" unit (uhhh...what part of missing items make up complete????) returned to them!!?? I had already spent hours updating and enhancing from TomTom's website upon receipt, but that went in one ear and out the other. Oh, and if you bought it a couple days ago for $129.99 with a $30 rebate, they're $99.99 now, no rebate necessary. I guess that's okay because CS rep. "Niti" in very broken English said the rebate check from the form I filled out a couple days ago would be here in a week. LMAO!!! The rebate center says 10-12 weeks. Unit is five stars, Amazon.com CS one star. (It was a live body or a zero for CS would be appropriate!) Caveat Emptor!!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Good enough for my needs and for the price.
Just what I was looking for. Getting from point A to B. Simple and easy, The TomTom One XL with the big screen is easy and simple to use. I guess I need to download the latest maps because it sometimes does no find some house numbers, but it takes me close enogh.

Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - TOM TOM ONE XL
THE TOM TOM.WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A PLUG AN GO DEVISE.I TOOK IT OUT OF THE BOX THE DISPLAY DID NOT WORK.SO I HAD TO SEND IT BACK.IT TOOK ABOUT A WEEK. THEY SENT ME A NEW ONE.IT WORKS FINE.I DO BELIEVE THAT FOR MOST FOLKS THIS WOULD BE A DISASTER.MEGELLIN SEEMS TO BE A BETTER PICK FOR THE MONEY.LESS PROBLEMS

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect condition, excellent value.
This refurbished TOMTOM ONE XL works perfectly right out of the box. Not even a hint that it is refurbished. The price is by far the best you can find for a GPS with a 4.3" screen. The maps are up to date and include streets in my neighborhood that have only been here for a short time. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a GPS at a great price.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great device, great price, refurb eligible for latest maps
Purchased TomTom One XL refurb with $[...] rebate. Great price for a very good GPS. I was thinking of a Magellan refurb, but according to customer reviews, magellan refuses to provide a free map update with their refurb units and the update costs $[...]. TomTom has their Latest Maps guarantee, even with their refurb units. The unit also comes with a 1 year warranty. I downloaded the TomTom Home software and the software reported that I was not eligible for the Latest Maps upgrade. No problem... called tech support and provided proof of purchase. The technician immediately made the map update available to me through the TomTom Home software. Very impressed with my tech support experience!!!

This is my 3rd TomTom GPS and it is very easy to use. Highly recommended.

For years, architects have gone to great lengths to protect their buildings from marauding skaters. But as aesthetic trends move toward folded planes that transition seamlessly from wall to ceiling and back to wall, designers have been looking to their former adversaries for a lesson in flow.

"We have this fascination with buildings becoming topography," says Alejandro Zaera-Polo, a partner at London's Foreign Office Architects, "and skateboarders have that physical experience." So for a park in Barcelona, his firm extended paving stones up the sides of small hills—to shield vegetation from salty sea breezes. At least that's what it told city officials. But skaters got the message. The resulting quarter-pipe landed on the March 2006 cover of Transworld Skateboarding.

Architect Zaha Hadid shares the love. She wanted her Phaeno Science Center in Germany to be an all-inclusive venue for pedestrians and skateboarders alike. Liability issues prevented skate-park designation—though you'd never guess it from the YouTube videos of pro skaters "visiting" the museum. "We design spaces that are flowing and continuous, and—just by coincidence—skateboarders look for that kind of continuity," Dillon Lin, an architect (and skater) at Hadid's firm, says with a wink.

And though the new Oslo Opera House (shown here) was inspired by the image of two glaciers colliding, the architects at Snøhetta didn't call on glaciologists to help fine-tune the details. They enlisted real experts in twisted planes: skateboarders. "We spoke to them about surface textures and the areas they prefer," architect Simon Ewings says. His firm followed up the conversation with a statement in stone.

Snøhetta used different finishes of marble to guide skaters looking for rideable surfaces. Acoustically sensitive parts, like above the auditorium, got rough marble that's unpleasant to wheel over. But other areas silently beckon skaters. Surfaces rise up all over the place to become ledges, curbs, and benches—like the jagged facets of a glacier (or skate park). One particularly tempting spot is a 3-foot-wide railing of smooth stone. Snøhetta architect Peter Dang is, ahem, absolutely sure it's skatable. "Just make sure to fall toward the inside," he advises.

Tricked Out

The new Oslo Opera House is much more than a temple to the vocal arts. It's a palace of thrash, with as many gnarly facets as the best skate parks. Here are some key features and suggested moves.

The proposed acquisition of Macromedia by Adobe is not a done deal. Both companies are under the scrutiny of the SEC, and it must also be approved by stockholders. While Macromedia/Adobe gives this process three to nine months, some industry analysts feel that is being overly optimistic. But assuming that all is goes as planned, Macromedia will cease to exist. Everything will be in the Adobe name and with the Adobe interface.

Paul Glen says that fear of layoffs is a de-motivator for creative problem-solvers like those in IT.
