Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Sony hurts users again with its own copy protection
This is a nice player...but you cannot watch Sony movies on it. Their own ARccOS DVD copy protection causes this player to think that there are bad sectors on it. The disc will attempt to load and then lock up your player making it very hard to even get the disc out.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Don't buy it!
I bought this Sony unit thinking like everyone else that with the name came quality. Not this time. I've had it for 2 years and have struggled with it the entire time. DVD's freeze up during play, and to keep the remote working I have to take out a battery and put it back in. Since I use this remote for my Sony tv it's twice as frustrating. I don't even know where the battery cover is anymore. Bottom line, I'll never buy Sony without first shopping around and reading the reviews.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good buy.
For the price this combo was a good buy and works great. Remote control is a little confusing without the instructions but you can figure out the basics. Product was described correctly and packaged well.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Problematic DVD player
I have to echo the comments of other reviewers in that the DVD player was very picky in what disks it would play, and finally stopped playing disks all together. The unit sounds like it's spinning up the disk, then it would stop, and this would repeat for up to a minute. Then I would get an errot message that the disk could not be read. The real error was buying this unit. I don't know if this unit is a contract job manufactured by some low end company that slaps the SONY name on it, or if the SONY products are just getting worse, but this is my second SONY product that I've had problems with. The first was a home theatre project unit. It felt like it was in the shop more than in use. I have a feeling SONY will tell me I'm out of luck.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Sony=Junk
If I could give zero stars I would. You will not be able watch any rental movies with this DVD player. Even brand new DVDs right out of the box are a gamble. The "play" and "menu" buttons are for show, they do not work. If all the planets are aligned, your movie might play after turning the player off and on, and hitting eject and set-up several times. Even then, this player will not play an entire DVD movie all the way through without major stutters and skips. Shame on Sony for selling such a piece of junk. I didn't expect such bad quality from such a big name.

How the Poor Die My right-hand neighbour was a little red-haired cobbler with one leg shorter than the other, who used to announce the death of any other patient (this happened a number of times, and my neighbour was always the first to hear of it) by whistling to me, exclaiming "NUMÉRO 43!" (or whatever it was) and flinging his arms above his head. This man had not much wrong with him, but in most of the other beds within my angle of vision some squalid tragedy or some plain horror was being enacted. Previously
Much of George Orwell's writings can be found online, including his essays. Here are a few from the site linked in the FPP:

You and the Atomic Bomb It is a commonplace that the history of civilisation is largely the history of weapons.
Books vs. Cigarettes With prices as they now are, I am spending far more on tobacco than I do on books.
The Lion and the Unicorn As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me.

A highlight of the site is the Road to Wigan Pier:

Mr Brooker was a dark, small-boned, sour, Irish-looking man, and astonishingly dirty. I don't think I ever once saw his hands clean. As Mrs Brooker was now an invalid he prepared most of the food, and like all people with permanently dirty hands he had a peculiarly intimate, lingering manner of handling things. If he gave you a slice of bread-and-butter there was always a black thumb-print on it.

As I Please, his collection of wartime essays for the Tribune, can also be found in bits and pieces on the web.

HP is shortly to launch a 300GB 2.5-inch hard drive claiming it will have "more storage capacity than any other SFF drive in the market." Both Fujitsu and Seagate's have 300GB 2.5-inch drives already. What's going on?…
