Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice
I was able to immediately save space, and the quality of the product is good. Just got it so, maybe I will love it even more-- thats why I gave it a 4, and the other reason is because of the cost, compared to other DVD/VHS combos.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - No Good!
This combo DVD/VCR by Sony is horrible. The 2nd time I played a DVD, the picture got broken up and kept stalling. Thinking it might be something wrong with the actual DVD, I put a different DVD in and got the same problem. I haven't even had this unit for a month yet and there are already problems. I'm bringing it back for a full refund!

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Too Noisy
I am VERY disappointed in this unit from Sony. The DVD player is scratchy/whistling while it plays and it is EXTREMELY annoying to have to crank up the volume to drown out this sound. And it is not only the DVD...the VCR is also quite noisy while playing, although not AS loud as the DVD player is.

The remote control on this unit leaves alot to be desired as well. There is a delayed response between the remote and the unit that took me a few minutes to figure out. I thought the remote was broken at first. The buttons seem too delicate.

Overall, the unit does have a good quality picture when playing DVD or VHS but the noises coming from the machine are ridiculous given today's technology.

Truely a lemon among combo machines.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Sony SLV-D100 DVD/VCR combo. IS THIS SONY??
First let me tell you why I buy this. It's a Sony right. I found out that I was wrong. This lovely Sony SLV-D100 DVD/VCR combo is ACTUALLY made by Samsung Electronics Corporation. This is the electronic corporation that manufactures Go Video VCRs and DVD/VCRs combo. Don't waste your money in buying this. I highly recommend a Samsung or Go Video DVD/VCR combo for less. The brand names may sound funny BUT they perform the same picture, quality, and reliability as the Sony because the two are made by Samsung. How do I know this, try looking at the vcr mechanism and see the similarity of Samsung VCR's design. So don't blame on Sony for this poor design and unreliable product. Sony only designs and markets this DVD/VCR combo and let Samsung Electronics Corporation do the rest. Thanks for reading this review.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Nice combo
I bought this combo for my room after my old vcr died. I was also tired of using my xbox as my dvd player. I chose this over the Zenith, because my tv is sony and it has an optical out, lacking on the zenith. I used an optical cable to hook it to my surround sound system, and it sounds and looks great. It was easy to hook up, a little confusing to use at first, but I quickly learned the insides and outs. The DVD and VCR are a bit loud when playing, but my surround sound system drowns it out well. I would recomend this to anyone wanting it for a bedroom or on a budget.

How the Poor Die My right-hand neighbour was a little red-haired cobbler with one leg shorter than the other, who used to announce the death of any other patient (this happened a number of times, and my neighbour was always the first to hear of it) by whistling to me, exclaiming "NUMÉRO 43!" (or whatever it was) and flinging his arms above his head. This man had not much wrong with him, but in most of the other beds within my angle of vision some squalid tragedy or some plain horror was being enacted. Previously
Much of George Orwell's writings can be found online, including his essays. Here are a few from the site linked in the FPP:

You and the Atomic Bomb It is a commonplace that the history of civilisation is largely the history of weapons.
Books vs. Cigarettes With prices as they now are, I am spending far more on tobacco than I do on books.
The Lion and the Unicorn As I write, highly civilized human beings are flying overhead, trying to kill me.

A highlight of the site is the Road to Wigan Pier:

Mr Brooker was a dark, small-boned, sour, Irish-looking man, and astonishingly dirty. I don't think I ever once saw his hands clean. As Mrs Brooker was now an invalid he prepared most of the food, and like all people with permanently dirty hands he had a peculiarly intimate, lingering manner of handling things. If he gave you a slice of bread-and-butter there was always a black thumb-print on it.
