Sony TV
I own a Sony KDFE50A10, LCD. TV. Its 3 years old and I am getting diagonal lines on the top 1/3 of my screen. I E mailed Sony and their technitions said there are many varibles and maybe it was ran a long time, sorry but maybe its at the end of its life. It did have a good picture untill this. I don't like the support because thay just don't care. DON'T BUY IT !

lots of problems after warrenty expired
We have had the t.v. for 20 months when these rectangular shaped, multicolored boxes apearred across the screen. They measured around 3/4 by 1/2 inch and have rapidly changing colors in them. I have been reading alot of posts and it looks like this is a very common problem occuring after 18-20 months of ownership. The cost to fix the problem is 800.00 for parts and 500 give or take for the tech. Until Sony resolves this issue I would avoid the T.V.

Great TV while it lasted (Get a warranty)
After months of research, I bought this this TV in Oct 2005 and we got addicted within 2 days and wondered about how did we survive on our 27 inch:
- Great picture
- Good colors
- Good black
- Great HD experience when hooked with HD feed from cable (using HDMI)
- Sufficient number of other inputs to hook up my DVD player, VCR etc.
Life was beautiful until April 2007. After working flawlessly for 1.5 years, the TV suddenly started displaying multicolored vertical lines all across. I logged a service request with the brick and mortar store's service department right away and started researching and here is what I found:
- Lot of people have problems with these Sony TVs (KDF series, Grand Wega series et al) generally 8 months to 2 years of operation:
(a) Roadmap problem - the screen will have some roadmap image in some particular color
(b) Multi colored vertical lines
(c) others
- General consensus was that this is caused by the "optical engine unit" or "light engine unit" being faulty. This is supposedly an expensive piece of hardware and Sony is replacing this component till Oct 2007 on select models. I'd recommend that you research if you TV falls within this program.
- Folks very often waited months before their TVs were fixed or replaced or were still looking for resolutions (i.e. even when they had warranty).
- Folks got high dollar estimates to fix this issue
- Surprisingly, Sony has not issued a recall.
My recommendations:
1) Buy this TV ONLY IF you are buying warranty
2) If something happens to your TV, be prepared to wait for 2/3 months before it is fixed
3) If something should happen to your TV, be aggressive in following-up. I ended up calling the store manager and then customer service chief at corporate level before THEY agreed to replace my TV (of course it is a floor model and is not new)
4) If you are looking for TVs, go for 720p models which have 1080i up-convert capability. No need to go for 1080p (you'd probably have to pay for a "HD Tier" to get 1080p programming). This way you can get 50inch 720p plasma for upto $2500.
Disclaimer: The delays related to receiving warranty service are rather common to all retailers and you WILL be without TV for at least 4 - 8 weeks. Be prepared.

This is a great TV
The first reviewer did a terrific job so I will only speak to what he left out. I agree with everything he said.
I paid $2500 dollars for this TV 18 months ago, and would say you are getting a steal on this TV for $1500.
I play XBOX 360 on this TV and the quality is really good. There is an occasional issue seeing pixels during odd lighting situations in the game (for instance a street light on Splinter Cell, the light to dark transition is not smooth) but this can be partially blamed on the game. The only real gaming issue I have with this TV is that the picture is to big to play really fast paced games. That's about like having to many shrimp on your shrimp Po Boy.
DVD's look fantastic, HD quality is perfect, and the picture with the regular DirecTV signal is the best I have seen with any HD TV this size. I even keep mine on the wide setting and people don't look to squatty.
Plenty of high quality inputs.

Poor Warranty Service
Bought this set new in December 2005. Beautiful picture until October 2006.....then a band of "railroad tracks appeared. Sony's warranty service provider in Miami, A&K Electronics, picked up the set to repair it on October 13, 2006.
As of November 11, 2006, I've been told that "the parts are on order", "they sent the wrong part", "they sent the part but it needs another part", and there is never anyone readily available who can give a straight answer when you call! Sony Customer Service only echo's what the service provider says when you ask them for help.
Maybe, I need to write this $2000 blunder off and go buy a Samsung.....NEVER ANOTHER SONY PRODUCT FOR ME!
