The Controller universally sucks
Problem one is you need to push the buttons hard. The controller also wears out quickly. The next thing is it won't hold a code for more than a few minutes. I am constantly typing in 1002 for my Sony tv. RCA sucks. Directv shouldn't allow RCA to make products for them. I have three of these pieces of junk.

Completely satisfied
This remote control is identical in look and function to my original, and it was actually a few dollars cheaper than some other universal remotes that may not work as seamlessly with the Direct TV system. It came pre-programmed to control my Direct TV receiver, and was easily programmed (about 3 minutes total) for the TV, VCR, and DVD. Now I just hope it lasts longer than the 14 months I got out of the controller that came with the system.

Not very Universal
The only advantage of this remote was it cam ewith my directv reciever. It has minimal range. It looses all presets once you remove the battery. It does only basic features of other equipment. I also find it requires a heavy hand to get it to acknowledge the button presses!
Do not buy this remote.

This remote control saved my life.
So I needed a new remote control. You know how it is. You move, and it goes into a box at one apartment. You reopen the same box in another apartment, and you find everything, except the remote. So you start saying all sorts of bad words, then you think about your options.
"So," you think, "do I have to start again with the primitive act of walking to the TV and turning it on? What about the DVD player? It's so modern. Will it resent me for losing such a valuable component, useful to its operation? My VCR, antiquated as it is, still would be able to record some TV programs, but the remote is what helped me set the timer ... Alas!"
Luckily, this handy universal remote, compatible to most brands and models of electronics, was there for me in my hour of need. Because of it, I was able to sit and watch TV without moving at all. Because of it, my DVD player remains happy with me. Because of it, I was able to record the season premiere of "Alias."
This universal remote control, bless it, saved my life during those precious days after my move. I don't know what I would've done without it. To think, I might've had to go outside. Or, worse, pick up a book.
